We start the construction of your arena by removing the top layer of soil making sure of correct levels using rotary laser levels.

This will then leave us with a level surface to install drains using perforated pipe back filled with clean stone.  These will run to nearby ditch or soak away.

Once the area has been leveled drainage channels are then laid into the arena base with drainage pipe backfilled with drainage stone, these are linked back to a nearby ditch or new soak-away.
Fence posts and gate posts are concreted in and fitted with two sturdy retaining boards.  With three rails  fitted to fence post all timber used is pressure treated

A polypropylene woven membrane is laid over the entire arena area stopping the soil penetrating into  drainage system and a clean aggregate (usually 2"stone ) is laid over the total area (to allow good drainage).  This is compacted and rolled to create a firm surface.  A second membrane (non-woven , to minimize slipping) is laid and attached to the surrounding retaining boards with all joins sealed.

The riding surface is then laid on top of this membrane, a choice of wood chip or sand, either on its own or with a chipped rubber top.
